The Pencil Files

Obviously the most well known and traditional medium (besides the pen, for obvious reasons) is the pencil, preferably graphite.
As the medium I most definitely prefer when I'm working on a piece, there are many reasons for it's popularity and... er... handy...ness?
I've listed it's more prominent and unique qualities that set it apart from other mediums such as colored pencils and crayons, panels and charcoal:

1. Well, I'd have to start with how forgiving it is. you can get erasers for next to nothing anywhere.
2. Next, in my personal experience, I've found that the overall familiarity of the pencil helps not to worry and more to focus on the project at hand.
3. So. Many. Techniques. For example, if you were to google "pencil drawing tips" you would probably be bombarded with so much information, you'd be on your way to the DaVinci museum in no time!

I may be over-exaggerating this a bit much (Me? Over-dramitic? Never) but seeing as I grew up drawing with pencils, I learned drawing with pencils, and I exhibit mostly just the art I drew with pencils, you can probably see why I would want to praise this treasured medium of yore.

Introduction

I've never done this before. SO this is my blog, and I should probably tell you what it's about. Well, basically (very basically), it's an art blog. Put into more detail, you could say it's a blog where I offer advice about drawing and painting and art tips and techniques to beginning (or intermediate, advanced, etc) artists. Plus, there're probably going to be other things such as displaying art of my own and others' art, allowing the occasional guest post (about art), and basically just write all the time about the thing I'm the most passionate about- art. SO ANATOMY STUFF

Today I'm going to be talking about structure and/or anatomy. Now, before you say or think it, I KNOW everyone told you to "study anatomy" before you start drawing. Yes, I KNOW you don't want to and think it's unnecessary. I couldn't agree more. After all, what art IS is squandering your life, broke and alone on the street, but still creating the most beautiful masterpieces that no one acknowledges until you're long dead  creating your OWN structures and shaping the human body the way YOU see it. But I still advise you to, at least before you get good (not that I'm saying you're not), look at the human muscles. and body. I'm not saying study, because I feel that that is a very wrong way of putting it (Art is art, not school) but at least figure out how everything is relative. Now you only have to do this until you look at people and admire the way they hold themselves when they stir pasta or you watch someone cry and think about drawing that...

ALRIGHT so I'm going to take a small sabbatical from my usual (two) posts and focus on THE BEST DAMN PIECE OF WRITING I HAVE EVER HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO LAY MY EYES ON It's called Lib's Life .
